What items cannot be placed in any skip?

For safety and regulatory reasons, the following items are not permitted in any skip:

Glass of any type

Asbestos

Liquids or chemicals

Food waste

Sharps

Offensive or sanitary materials (including animal waste and soiled nappies)

Explosive materials and fireworks

Gas cylinders

Hazardous substances such as oils, lubricants, paints, dyes, resins, adhesives, caustic substances, chlorine and other chemicals

Can skips be delivered on weekends?

Yes — Skippys Adelaide can deliver skip bins on Saturdays. Weekend deliveries are popular, so we recommend booking ahead to secure your preferred delivery day

What skip bin sizes are available?

We offer four convenient skip bin sizes:

2 m³ mini skip

4 m³ mini skip bin

6 m³ skip bin

9 m³ mega skip

Not all waste types are suitable for every size, so be sure to check which sizes are available for your rubbish type. 240 L wheelie bins are also available if you have less waste.

How do I estimate what size skip I need?

To estimate the volume of your rubbish, measure your waste pile using:

Length × Width × Height = cubic metres

For example: 2.1 m × 1.8 m × 1.5 m ≈ 5.7 m³ — so a 6 m³ skip would fit your needs. It’s usually best to choose a size slightly larger than your estimate to ensure you have enough room

How much notice is required to book?

For guaranteed delivery on your chosen day, we recommend booking at least one day before delivery. Same-day delivery may be possible in some cases — please call us to check availability.

Can I move the skip once it’s placed?

No — once a skip bin is placed, it must not be moved or dragged. Moving the bin can damage it or make it unsafe for truck lifting. Any damage caused by moving the skip is the responsibility of the hirer.

Are there weight limits?

Yes — General Rubbish and Mixed Rubbish skips have weight limits that vary by size. For example:

General Rubbish:

2 m³ = 300 kg

4 m³ = 600 kg

6 m³ = 900 kg

9 m³ = 1,350 kg

Mixed Rubbish:

2 m³ = 1,000 kg

4 m³ = 1,500 kg

Skips for cardboard/paper, clean fill, green waste and concrete do not have a weight limit.

What happens if a skip is overweight?

If your General Rubbish or Mixed Rubbish skip exceeds the weight limit, an additional charge of $10 per 100 kg applies. In some cases, you may be asked to remove prohibited or excess items before bin collection.

Is Skippys Adelaide environmentally friendly?

Yes — at Skippys Adelaide we’re committed to responsible waste disposal and recycling. We work with licensed recycling facilities and aim to divert as much material as possible from landfill. Concrete is crushed and repurposed, garden and green waste is processed into mulch, cardboard and paper is recycled, and clean fill and soil are reused where possible. Knowing what goes in your skip helps us sort and recycle more efficiently.

Can I put televisions or computer monitors in a skip?

Yes — televisions and computer monitors are classified as e-waste. They may be placed in a General Rubbish or Mixed Rubbish skip only if they sit on top of other rubbish and do not stick out above the edge of the bin. A small extra fee applies for e-waste recycling.

Can I place mattresses in a skip?

Yes — inner spring mattresses and bed bases can go in a General Rubbish or Mixed Rubbish skip as long as they are on top of other rubbish and do not protrude past the bin edge. An extra charge applies per mattress.

Can I put tyres in a skip?

Yes — tyres without rims may be included in General Rubbish and Mixed Rubbish skips only on top of other rubbish and not protruding above the bin edge. A small additional charge applies for tyre disposal.

Can I put white goods in a skip?

Yes — larger household electrical items such as fridges, freezers, washing machines and dryers are accepted in General Rubbish and Mixed Rubbish skips as long as they don’t stick out above the top. These items are recycled separately and placing them in your skip helps our recycling efforts.

How long can I keep the skip?

Standard hire includes up to 4 days so you have enough time to fill it. If you need the skip longer, extra charges apply — please contact us for details.

Where can the skip be placed?

We will place your skip in your preferred location on your property where it is safe and accessible for our truck to collect. If the skip is to be placed on council property (e.g., nature strip or road), you must arrange any required council permits prior to delivery.

What if my skip is overloaded?

Skips must not be filled above the rim. If the driver cannot safely secure and transport the bin due to overload, collection may be refused. You may be asked to remove items or, if needed, order a second skip for the excess waste.

What others say

  • Hired a skip for a full garage clean-out and couldn’t be happier. Booking was easy, delivery was on time, and the driver placed the bin exactly where I needed it. Fit way more household rubbish than I expected. Will definitely use them again.

Mark T. – General Waste Skip

  • We had a massive garden clean-up after trimming trees and hedges. The green-waste option was perfect — no issues at all and great advice on what could go in. Fast pickup and very friendly service. Highly recommended.

Lisa M. – Green Waste Removal

  • Used a skip during our bathroom renovation and it made the job so much easier. Bricks, tiles, timber — everything went in with no hassle. Great value compared to other skip companies we looked at. Professional and reliable.
